Ubuntu???Posted by: ewanm89 in Linux, Ubuntu, University, gentoo, tags: gentoo, Hardy, Ubuntu, UniversityDue to the fact I can’t use gentoo (yet?) at uni due to use of certain, proprietary, protocols. I have been running Ubuntu Hardy Heron (8.04) Development, and to show support (it is better than any RPM based system) I have added the countdown to my blog.

Laptop cardreader, ENE TecnologyPosted by: ewanm89 in FOSS, Hardware, Linux, card readerIf you have a laptop and it has a cardreader that doesn’t seem to work on linux. This one lspci reports as: Check, for /dev/ files that look lik /dev/mmcblk0 and /dev/mmcblk0p1. It may just work (on recent kernels). mount with something like “sudo mount /dev/mmcblk0p1 /mnt” All the files will be under /mnt/ in this example. and don’t forget to umount it with “sudo umount /mnt” before you yank it out. Started playing around with gentoo, after the difficult task of resizing the ‘buntu partition I did the basic install, mostly things went well. So I now have a working system (still a few problems to iron out) and I still have a lot to install.

Old blog importedPosted by: ewanm89 in Beryl, FOSS, Linux, MySQL, X11, apache, debian, nvidiaMySQL and apache managed to fix themselves on aptitude update and so I have manage to import the old blog enteries. However update has wrecked my NVIDIA graphics driver. I’m already missing Beryl and Xorg Downloaded the 64 bit Kubuntu Feisty Fawn ISO to burn and install on my new laptop. Windows will be off it as soon as I know I have a rescue disc (to install in a virtual machine). Now I just have to wait ’till my birthday. |
