Due to the fact I can’t use gentoo (yet?) at uni due to use of certain, proprietary, protocols.

I have been running Ubuntu Hardy Heron (8.04) Development, and to show support (it is better than any RPM based system) I have added the countdown to my blog.

Seems as though yahoo have over taken google in finding some inlinks to site from a few others… still only first page. 8-|

Well, google have managed to index (and cache) the main page of my site.

Now google, being you have a nice XML formated file telling you the rest, could you please index them too? pretty please?

Well, they’re doing better than yahoo, MS and ask.

I hereby declare all search engines crap, google, yahoo, MS Live serach and ask have all been told about my lovely blog…

How many have indexed it? None!!!

They all have the sitemap, they know the URLs, the rodots.txt only points to sitmap, it’s linked on my slashdot account, on several forums, two planets and a blogroll… If anyone has any ideas as to why I’m having this problem, please let me know?

When setting this server I ran into a a couple of problems, this has bought up a couple of questions:

1. How can apache manage some URL rewrite rules without mod_rewrite being enabled?
2. Why isn’t MySQL using UTF8 by default already?

Sorry haven’t posted in a while. Been busy getting ready to go to university next Saturday (22nd Sept). For those of you don’t know, I’m going to Royal Holloway University of London to read Computer Science.

In other news, about three weeks ago I tried to play a DVD in my laptop. It wouldn’t play and BIOS stopped detecting that the drive even existed. Yesterday I found out that the drive was removable and one of the data pins had come out of contact when I inserted the DVD.

If you have a laptop and it has a cardreader that doesn’t seem to work on linux.

This one lspci reports as:

Check, for /dev/ files that look lik /dev/mmcblk0 and /dev/mmcblk0p1. It may just work (on recent kernels).

mount with something like “sudo mount /dev/mmcblk0p1 /mnt”

All the files will be under /mnt/ in this example.

and don’t forget to umount it with “sudo umount /mnt” before you yank it out.

I’ve been following openmoko for quite a few months now and actually started getting a multiuser environment together, development version of the neo-1973 is out. However parents won’t let me order one . Please mum, I need it for development, qemu is just too tedious for such development.

Good news is in a few weeks I’ll hopefully have a bank account I can use to order it.

I’ve been using compiz-fusion for a couple of weeks now, for those of you that don’t know it is the the compiz-extras/Beryl merge. It isn’t ready for release quite yet but I have it built from the git repos using the xeffects gentoo overlay (see http://gentoo-xeffects.org/).
