I think the CEO’s of a lot of record companies need to be forced to write a 1000 lines of
Copy Protection: A clever method of preventing incompetent pirates from
stealing software and legitimate customers from using it.
Then maybe we might be able to play our music. I found it on the GNU humor pages.
I’m also going to change some of the apache error messages.

I had included the web 2.0 youtube video as an embedded object but wordpress + complete RSS didn’t strip out the object as I had expected it to.
Webmin deleted my enabled apache virtual servers and Beryl is crashing on loadup. So I’ve had a fun day.

All works now though.

I was remote accessing my server through webmin at school and wanted to use my own CA and ssl certificate however being that I was using SSL in my access generating a new certificate authority certificate causes problems. Without updating both certificates simultaneously you can’t do it while using the same SSL tunnel. You can’t sign the second certificate until you’ve generated the first. My brain starts to hurt.
In the end I generated the CA certificate, locked myself out and fixed it when I got local access at home by turning off SSL and logging in locally (after I closed ports on router) to generate the main certificate. Easy! Although one of my teachers, who doesn’t understand public key cryptography and asked why I couldn’t remember my password, laughed. The ones who did understand cryptography were fine though.

Spent a couple of hours at school in one of the server cupboards. A power outage killed the apple server and the raid server has not been coming online. This causes the user directories to be recreated. Then when the raid controller does finally come online it mounts as XRAID1 instead of XRAID. The first time it happened school called in an apple engineer who took 2 weeks to fix it, after making it more of a mess, since then I’ve done the job in 30 minutes. Today I went back during my lunch break and looked into why the UPS wasn’t working. I found the data cables still in the bag with a cable tie around them and in the RAID configuration I found the box marked, “Restart RAID controller after power outage” unchecked. I still should moan at the main school administrator to plug the sockets back in, he put a smaller switch in and found he didn’t have room to plug the whole network in.

Still haven’t fixed apache’s ssl configuration. It’s good it is not an important part of the website.
I tried to recompile the kernel and install the latest nvidia drivers today. I recompiled kernel, shutdown X11 and installed nvidia drivers without a hitch. Rebooted and found I had no sound as ALSA was using the dummy driver as default. I tried to run beryl (svn) but it crashed locking everything, even sysrq calls. After forced reboot X11 won’t come up.

Sorry it is not going to be online 24/7. As my parents will not let me use the power.
